REVELL Junkers JU88 A-1 Battle of Britain Starter Set 1:72 - 64972

The Ju88 was the most versatile German fighter aircraft in World War II. Series production started in 1939 with the Ju 88A-1. From the beginning of August 1940, there were increased attacks on the British mainland. On 15 August, English tactics changed and the successes of the Luftwaffe diminished, until on 15 September the tide finally turned.

The Junkers Ju 88 was a German twin-engine, multi-role aircraft that served with the Luftwaffe throughout the Second World War. It was designed by Wilhelm Heinrich Evers, and American engineer Alfred Gassner at the Junkers Flugzeug und Motorenwerke in response to a specification issued by the German Ministry of Aviation (Reichsluftfahrtministerium, or RLM) in 1935 for an unarmed, three-seat Schnellbomber (fast bomber) that could fly at 500 km/h (311 mph) and carry a bomb load of 800 – 1,000 kg (1,760 – 2,200 lb). The Ju 88 was a low-wing cantilever monoplane of all-metal stressed skin construction. It was selected ahead of other designs submitted by rival companies Focke-Wulf, Henschel, and Messerschmitt. The first prototype, the Ju 88V1, made its maiden flight on 21 December 1936, powered by twin Daimler-Benz DB 600A inline engines with annular radiators. On April 10, 1937, the V1 crash-landed and was damaged beyond repair after one of the engines failed. It was quickly followed by the similarly-powered Ju 88V2, which attained a top speed of 465 km/h (289 mph).
